Gold refinery: Canadian miner Iamgold receives an exemption in Burkina Faso

Iamgold, which operates the Essakane gold mine in Burkina Faso and owns an 85% stake, has received a temporary exemption from the requirement to refine its gold in the country. On October 12, the Mines Ministry ordered holders of industrial permits to deliver their gold doré to approved Burkinabe refineries from November 1. CEO Renaud Adams said the exemption has no end date and operations are continuing normally, citing the need to meet international industry standards. Essakane produced 94,000 ounces attributable to Iamgold in the third quarter, leaving the new Raffinor-BF refinery without its main potential supplier.
