UK urges households to stockpile essentials for emergencies

UK leader Andy Burnham urged households to prepare for emergencies as the government launched its “Be Ready” campaign, advising people to keep three days of bottled water and non-perishable food, a radio, cash and other essentials at home. The three-year campaign aims to help people cope with disruptions caused by severe weather, cyberattacks or hostile actors. At a wildfire and resilience summit in Liverpool, Burnham also announced additional fire-response resources, including military aircraft equipped to fight wildfires, specialist teams and up to £45 million in funding. The UK has faced droughts, extreme heat and wildfires in recent years, while a cyberattack on French supermarkets has renewed concerns about food security.
