C'River cracks down on unsafe meat processing with tyre-roasting ban

The Cross River State Government has launched a crackdown on the hazardous practice of roasting animal skin, known as 'kpomo,' using burnt tyres and preserving it with toxic chemicals like formalin. Health Commissioner Henry Egbe Ayuk warned that this illegal practice poses severe health risks, including cancers and respiratory diseases. The Ministry of Health is ramping up awareness and monitoring at slaughter facilities, while butchers are committing to safer cooking methods.
