Yemen is edging closer to renewed confrontation

An Iranian aircraft attempting to land in Sanaa triggered an escalation between Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and the Houthis. The Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia viewed the flight as a test of sovereignty, while the Houthis and Tehran saw it as an attempt to break restrictions. In retaliation for strikes on Sanaa airport, the Houthis targeted Abha airport in Saudi Arabia, marking the first claimed attack since the informal truce in March 2022.
