Zambia: Former Vice President Guy Scott dies at 82

Former Zambian Vice President Guy Scott died Wednesday at age 82 at his farm in Lusaka after a brief illness. An economist born in Zambia to Scottish parents, he served as vice president from 2011 to 2014 and became acting president after Michael Sata's death, making him the first white head of state in Africa since F.W. de Klerk. The constitution barred him from running for president because his parents were not Zambian-born. Edgar Lungu succeeded him and led the country from 2015 to 2021.
