Botswana will slaughter 25 elephants to celebrate the country's 60th Anniversary of Independence

Botswana will celebrate its 60th Independence Anniversary on September 30, 2026, by slaughtering nearly 25 elephants. The Environment and Tourism Minister, Wynter Mmolotsi, has issued hunting licenses for 20 districts, allowing the hunting of elephants and other wildlife species. This decision aims to provide game meat for the festivities, despite the presence of 132,000 elephants in the country.
