A marine virus, Covert mortality nodavirus (CMNV), is raising concerns in Senegal following reports of eye damage in humans. Researchers identified the virus in the eye tissues of patients in China, where it was linked to eye inflammation. Epidemiological investigations show that 71% of cases involve individuals in direct contact with aquatic wildlife. The CMNV, detected in at least 49 marine species, exhibits a strong adaptability, increasing risks associated with fishing activities.
