Where have most of the Gerenuks in Tanzania gone?

Tanzania is rapidly losing its gerenuks, the long-necked antelopes known locally as Swala-Twiga. According to a census by the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) presented by Dr. Eblate Mjingo, their numbers are declining while their cousins, elands and impalas, are increasing. The global population of gerenuks is estimated to be less than 90,000, threatened by habitat loss due to human expansion, agriculture, and industrialization. A recent study at Lake Natron counted only 172 gerenuks, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
