KRA to ditch Excel for web-based tax filing system

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) plans to overhaul income tax filing by replacing Excel downloads with a web-based system, following Finance Act 2026 changes. Effective January 1, 2027, natural persons must file by April 30 and non-natural persons by June 30. KRA also introduced WhatsApp filing in April 2026. Official Josephine Mugure stated the simplified web system will roll out in 2027.

FAAC: FG States, LGs share N2.6 trn

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) shared a total of ₦2.551 trillion among the Federal Government, the 36 States, and the 774 Local Government Councils for June 2026. The meeting, chaired by Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, was held in Abuja. The revenue comprised ₦1.810 trillion in statutory revenue and ₦740.724 billion from VAT. The Federal Government received ₦923.438 billion, States ₦838.208 billion, Local Government Councils ₦591.390 billion, and ₦197.610 billion was allocated to oil-producing states as 13% derivation.

In June 2026, Nigeria's three tiers of government (federal, states, and local councils) shared a total of N2.550 trillion from Federation Account revenue. The allocation was made at the July 2026 Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja. The federal government received N923.438 billion, states received N838.208 billion, local councils received N591.390 billion, and N197.610 billion was shared as derivation revenue to benefiting states. The revenue came from statutory revenue (N1.809 trillion) and VAT (N740.724 billion).
