Approximately 107 people died in over 800 road accidents recorded in the first quarter of 2026 in the Haut-Katanga province, according to a report by the National Road Prevention Commission (CNPR). Main causes include speeding, reckless driving, wrong maneuvers, drunk driving, and driving against traffic. Dangerous routes include the heavy truck road, Kipushi, Kasenga, Kasumbalesa, Likasi, Kamatanda – Kolwezi, Boulevard Msiri, and Avenue Lumumba. The CNPR is deploying teams to regulate traffic and install speed radars and road signs.
