Evictions in Abidjan: Ghana evacuates its citizens "in distress"

Ghana has begun repatriating 327 of its nationals living in Ivory Coast after massive demolition operations in Port-Bouët, Abidjan. A first group of 228 people returned to Ghana on June 11, 2026. Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa provided free buses and trucks to transport the families left homeless. Ivorian authorities have promised compensation, and Ghana is ensuring that the victims receive these payments.
