CBK Licenses 32 New Digital Lenders, Raising Total to 259 in Kenya

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has approved 32 new digital credit providers, bringing the total number of licensed lenders to 259. These new lenders were licensed on April 28, 2026, under the 2022 regulations. Licensed digital lenders are required to comply with strict rules on data protection and loan cost transparency. As of February 2026, these lenders had disbursed approximately 7.5 million loans valued at Ksh133.5 billion.
