IPOB urges Britain to press Nigeria to hear Nnamdi Kanu’s appeal

IPOB is urging the British Government to use diplomatic channels to ensure Nigeria hears the appeal of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, without further delay. Kanu was convicted on terrorism-related charges in November 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment; his legal team has challenged the conviction. Spokesperson Emma Powerful cited a 2022 UN Working Group opinion, a Court of Appeal judgment that discharged Kanu on specified counts, and questions about the legal basis for the conviction and the status of some charges. IPOB says Britain should press for a prompt hearing without dictating the outcome or interfering with Nigeria’s judicial independence.
