The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tanzania Forest Services Agency to study _Prunus Africana_, a rare medicinal tree. This species, known as Red Stinkwood, is threatened by over-exploitation and habitat loss. Its bark extract is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia and other urinary disorders. _Prunus Africana_ is classified as vulnerable and is highly protected due to the growing demand for its medicinal properties.
