CAS: Stakes over the 2025 African championship title remain unresolved

Senegal beat Morocco 1–0 on January 18, but on March 17 the CAF ruled that the Lions had forfeited after abandoning the field and awarded Morocco a 3–0 victory by default. Senegal’s football federation appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which heard the parties behind closed doors on October 8, with Gérald Simon presiding. No ruling date has been announced: CAS has up to four months after the hearing, while its director general, Matthieu Reeb, said a decision could come within days or weeks. If CAS upholds the forfeit, Morocco will retain the title, with only very limited grounds for an appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal; an online document claiming the title had been awarded to Senegal was identified as fake.
