Mara: The river between life and death in the Serengeti

The Mara River, stretching 395 kilometers from the Mau Forest escarpments to Lake Victoria, flows through Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Approximately 57 kilometers of the river is located within Serengeti, while 35% of the Mara River basin is mapped in Tanzania. This basin, one of the oldest and least disturbed natural environments on Earth, is home to numerous Nile crocodiles and hippos, but no census has been conducted to determine their numbers.
