Kenyans have been invited to submit their views on the proposed extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Nakuru to Busia, following the submission of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). The Ksh700 billion project plans to extend the railway by 262 kilometers from Naivasha to Kisumu and 107 kilometers from Kisumu to Malaba. Key concerns include large-scale vegetation clearance and pollution risks, for which Kenya Railways has proposed mitigation measures such as tree planting and the construction of wildlife corridors.
