Abacha died of heart attack, wasn't poisoned – Ex-DSS director

Former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, stated that former Nigerian Head of State General Sani Abacha died of a heart attack on June 8, 1998, contradicting widespread claims of poisoning. Amachree said a woman who was with Abacha shortly before his death provided direct eyewitness testimony, indicating she did not realize he had died at the time. According to him, the woman was questioned and her account led to the conclusion that the death was due to a heart attack.
