IPOB questioned the labeling of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as a terrorist shortly after an August 2017 peace meeting with South-East governors in Enugu. Kanu had demanded developmental projects and initiatives for the region. Days after the meeting, his family home in Umuahia was invaded by Nigerian troops, resulting in deaths and his escape. IPOB is calling for explanations regarding Kanu's sudden classification as a terrorist.
