Legal Aid workers march to Parliament over retirement age dispute

More than 500 members of the South African Legal Aid Workers Union (SALAWU) marched to Parliament and Legal Aid SA House to demand the retirement age be raised from 60 to 65. The union filed a strike notice with the CCMA after a certificate of non-resolution was issued in May 2026. Workers also protest budget cuts that increase workloads and compromise service quality. Legal Aid SA has activated business continuity measures to minimize disruptions.
