2010 FIFA World Cup overshadowed TRC investigations

Former police minister Bheki Cele told the Khampepe Commission of Inquiry that he was unaware of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) cases during his tenure as national police commissioner, as his primary focus was ensuring South Africa successfully hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Cele stated that the SAPS was heavily focused on World Cup preparations, causing other matters to take a back seat. He admitted that he only became familiar with TRC-related matters after being appointed minister of police.
