Defamation case: Court threatens to foreclose Sowore's defence

The Federal High Court in Abuja threatened to foreclose the defence of Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and AAC presidential candidate, in his defamation trial against President Bola Tinubu. Sowore is accused of calling Tinubu a 'criminal' on X and Facebook, leading to charges of criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and incitement. At the hearing on July 16, 2026, Sowore sought an adjournment because his lead counsel was in the UK. Justice Mohammed Umar warned that if Sowore sought anything other than an adjournment, he would be considered as representing himself.
