Photos: COAS visits Rwanda genocide memorial, urges national unity

Nigerian Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial on Monday during a working visit to Rwanda. He said the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, whose victims include approximately 250,000 people commemorated at the site, demonstrates the devastating consequences of ethnic hatred, divisive rhetoric and violent extremism. A statement from Army spokesperson Colonel Appolonia Anele said the visit urged Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious and political differences and emphasized responsible leadership, conflict prevention and civil-military cooperation.
