Africa has vast, untapped offshore wind and marine energy potential, with a 30,500-kilometer coastline. Although no offshore wind farms exist yet, 2,910 MW of projects have been announced or are in pre-construction. A 1.5 MW ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) plant is being developed off São Tomé and Príncipe, with potential expansion to 10 MW. Globally, offshore wind capacity reached 92 GW by 2025, nearly tripling in five years.
