Africa: Mombasa Declaration Unites 15 Countries in Fight Against Illegal Fishing

A coalition of 15 countries from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe and the Pacific has adopted the Mombasa Declaration on Fisheries Transparency, pledging to strengthen traceability and fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The text calls for better sharing of vessel data and enhanced cooperation among governments to implement the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency. Signatories include Cameroon, Ghana, Somalia, South Korea, France (for its overseas territories), and others. The declaration was launched in Mombasa, Kenya, as part of the conference 'Our Ocean, Our Heritage, Our Future'.
