Beyond Garri: Mapping Nigeria’s $1bn path to Cassava derivative exports

Nigeria is the world's largest cassava producer but lags in exports, having exported only about 5,000 metric tonnes of derivative products in 2023. Research by the Nigeria Cassava Investment Accelerator reveals that export opportunities are concentrated in four derivative pathways, with commercial viability depending on Nigerian processors' ability to compete on product specifications and costs. The Chinese market, particularly for native starch, presents a significant opportunity for Nigerian processors who can deliver reliable and competitive products.
