Emir of Zurmi Bello Suleiman dies after five years on throne

The Emir of Zurmi in Zamfara State, Bello Suleiman, died on Monday afternoon at the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau. He became emir in 2021 after succeeding his uncle, Abubakar Atiku, who was removed by the state government. During his reign, Suleiman faced increasing insecurity, notably during a bandit attack in May 2024 that resulted in the deaths of three security personnel and the abduction of several residents, including his chief detail.
