Al Jazeera marks 30 years of transforming news in Middle East and beyond

Al Jazeera marked its 30th anniversary on November 1, 2026, with an event at its Doha headquarters attended by Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Launched in 1996, the network brought marginalised political perspectives into Arab broadcasting and opened debate on issues rarely discussed on regional television. News Director Raed Fakih said Al Jazeera aims to broaden its coverage and give greater prominence to a wider range of events and viewpoints. The anniversary coincides with a restructuring of its Arabic-language news services into three channels for rolling news, live events and in-depth reporting.

The Congolese president said Rwanda uses the FDLR issue to justify its presence on Congolese territory.
