Benin: Hosée Houngnibo Acquitted in First Instance, Convicted on Appeal

The appeals chamber of the Court for the Suppression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism sentenced Hosée Houngnibo to 24 months in prison and a fine of one million CFA francs, overturning his previous acquittal. This decision follows a special prosecutor's appeal regarding charges of defamation and electronic harassment. The prosecution was initiated after media statements about detention conditions at the Ouidah civil prison. Hosée Houngnibo, previously convicted for similar offenses, has the option to appeal to the Supreme Court.
