Côte d'Ivoire: Simone Gbagbo proposes to replace the CEI with the High Electoral Council – La Nouvelle Tribune

Simone Gbagbo, president of the Movement of Capable Generations (MGC), presented on June 8, 2026 in Abidjan a draft organic law creating a High Electoral Council (HCE) to replace the dissolved Independent Electoral Commission (CEI). The project proposes an autonomous institution, independent from the executive and political parties, tasked with organizing and supervising elections. Gbagbo called on all national stakeholders to examine the text. The former First Lady, a historic opposition figure, retains significant influence in Ivorian political debate.
