Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been tense since the Taliban took power in 2021. Pakistan summoned a senior Afghan diplomat after an attack claimed by the Pakistan Taliban (TPP), which has conducted further attacks against security forces. Despite mediation efforts leading to a pause in fighting, both sides continue to target each other, including a Pakistani strike on a drug rehabilitation center that killed over 250 people.
