Fuel: American breakthrough in Africa continues despite Dangote refinery

African fuel imports from the United States are rising, benefiting from geopolitical disruptions in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. In April, South Africa doubled its imports of American fuel, unloading several cargoes at Durban port. The Dangote refinery in Nigeria, the largest in Africa, has increased its capacity to 700,000 barrels per day but still does not cover the continent's demand, which remains structurally deficient in refining capacity.
