NSCDC orders probe as illegal miners die in custody

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ordered a probe into the deaths of illegal miners arrested during enforcement operations in Niger State on September 15 and 16, 2026. Commandant General Prof Ahmed Abubakar Audi has formed an investigative team to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including detention conditions and medical care provided. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital in Minna for medical examination to determine the actual cause of death.
