The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) declared the end of a two-year monkeypox epidemic that caused over 2,200 deaths. Health Minister Roger Kamba announced that the epidemic no longer constitutes a national emergency. Between 2024 and 2026, more than 161,000 suspected cases of mpox were reported, with about 37,000 confirmed by tests. The World Health Organization had previously declared this epidemic a public health emergency of international concern.
