DRC: Prince Epenge arrested at N'djili and placed in provisional detention

Prince Epenge, Lamuka coalition spokesperson and president of ADD Congo, was arrested on October 25 at N'djili International Airport as he was preparing to travel to Rome for the C64 conclave. The prosecutor’s office at the Kinshasa/Gombe High Court placed him in provisional detention on October 27, following his transfer from the National Cyber Defense Council’s premises. The charges have not been officially disclosed, but he is reportedly being pursued for spreading false rumors about Manassé Lomboto’s death during an opposition demonstration; his lawyer, Nico Manyengele, says his health is concerning. His passport was confiscated, and the investigation is due to continue on Wednesday.

A technical assessment will examine the structure, foundations, added floors, materials, and construction methods, but no definitive link has been established between the unauthorized floors and the collapse. The ministry also announced increased inspections of active construction sites and buildings showing signs of deterioration.
