Since the start of the Ebola epidemic in the DRC, pregnant women are avoiding hospitals for fear of contamination or being placed under observation. At the Bénédicte clinic in Bunia, prenatal consultations have dropped from about 60 to around ten per month, according to Dr. Sonny Mwembo. Esther Lutula, 26, has stopped her medical follow-up, preferring to wait until the disease stops spreading.
