Electricity: Withdrawal of KPDC and DPDC Exposes Financial Fragility of Cameroon's Sector

On June 1, 2026, Kribi Power Development Company (KPDC) and Dibamba Power Development Company (DPDC), subsidiaries of Globeleq, withdrew their production capacities from the Southern Interconnected Grid. This action followed the freezing of their bank accounts by the Cameroonian tax administration as part of a forced recovery procedure for unpaid tax obligations. The Kribi gas plant (216 MW) and Dibamba heavy fuel plant (88 MW) together account for 304 MW of installed capacity. The Ministry of Water and Energy also highlights cash flow tensions due to persistent arrears from the distribution concessionaire.
