Oriire Schoolchildren: How arrest of kidnappers' family members led victims' rescue

39 schoolchildren and 7 teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026, from communities in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. One teacher was killed in captivity. The remaining victims were rescued on July 10 during a coordinated military and DSS operation. The arrest of the kidnappers' wives and children, and the leakage of interrogation videos to the kidnappers, forced them to propose an exchange, but the security forces ultimately freed the hostages.
