MIKTA Envoys and Federal Government Seek Stronger Climate Finance Partnerships Ahead of COP31

Diplomats from MIKTA member countries and Nigerian federal government representatives called in Abuja for improved access to climate finance, stronger international partnerships and investment in practical solutions for developing countries. At a roundtable ahead of COP31, scheduled for November 9–20 in Antalya, Australian High Commissioner Leilani Bin-Juda cited complex applications and funding delays as barriers and urged Nigeria to support an action plan launched in Fiji for small island developing states and least developed countries. Türkiye’s ambassador, Mehmet Poroy, said the conference should focus on implementing commitments and supporting African priorities including energy, sustainable agriculture and food security. He also outlined the Climate Implementation Bridge, being developed with the United Nations Development Programme to turn climate commitments into investment-ready projects.
