About 50 Mwangaza ambassadors from Beni and Butembo pledged on October 23 in Beni to raise community awareness and peacefully press authorities to improve access to electricity in the DRC. They made the commitment at a workshop organized by the NGO African Resources Watch (AFREWATCH). Participants said several communities in Beni and Lubero territories and the city of Butembo remain without power despite the country’s hydroelectric potential, and complained about high electricity costs. They are calling for wider access to reliable, affordable electricity for households and businesses.
