In a post on X, he condemned the growing trend of associating crime with particular ethnic groups, stating that a thief is a thief regardless of origin. He expressed understanding for the pain of ordinary Fulani people who are often unfairly blamed for crimes committed by individuals they do not know. Obi urged Nigerians to reject ethnic stereotyping and judge people by their character, citing Martin Luther King Jr.
