The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has rejected calls to change the second-term school calendar amid unrest in schools. Deputy Secretary-General Hesbon Otieno stated that changing the calendar is expensive and disruptive, and urged students to maintain discipline and dialogue with school leadership. Over 50 schools have been closed. Otieno spoke after attending a church service at Nyakach Girls' National School in Kisumu County.
