Gunmen ambush, kill Plateau monarch in road attack

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia ambushed and killed the traditional ruler of Gwande District, Saf Samuel Alaket, while he was returning from a traditional council meeting. The attack occurred around 7:30pm near the boundary between Sha District and Daffo community in Bokkos Local Government Area. The monarch sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a medical facility, where he was later confirmed dead. The incident has caused mourning and tension, but security operatives have brought the situation under control.
