Fishermen denounce rise in human rights violations on Lake Albert

The Federation of Fishermen's Committees of Lake Albert (FECOPELA) denounces abuses and human rights violations committed by naval force soldiers against fishermen. Abuses include extortion of fish and nets, torture, and death threats. Two incidents are cited: in Mukambo, the head of the Songa Ndaru fishing camp suffered severe violence; in Tchomia, a female trader's fish cargo was looted. FECOPELA calls on the new governor of Ituri to intervene to end impunity.
