The Hillsborough Bill, formally the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, is expected to be passed by the House of Commons on Tuesday, paving the way for it to become law by autumn. The government withdrew the legislation in January over disagreements about intelligence services' compliance with a duty of candour, but a new amendment removes exemptions. The 1989 disaster at Hillsborough claimed 97 lives, with police spreading false narratives blaming Liverpool fans and withholding evidence. Survivor and MP Ian Byrne called it a 'lasting legacy' for the 97 victims and their families.
