IGP Disu proposes 200% gratuity and pensions for retired officers

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has proposed a 200% gratuity and pensions based on eligible officers’ final salaries. The proposal is being reviewed by a presidential committee that includes representatives of the Finance Ministry, the Accountant-General’s Office, the salaries commission, the Budget Office and PenCom. The plan could also cover officers who have already retired and aims to address outstanding liabilities and pension challenges, including disputes over the contributory scheme. Disu stressed that the proposal has not been approved and remains subject to the committee’s recommendations, government approvals and funding arrangements.
