India debuts hydrogen-powered train as part of sustainability drive

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first domestically built hydrogen-powered train, named 'NaMo Green Rail'. The 10-coach train runs a 90km route between Jind and Sonipat, carrying about 2,600 passengers at speeds up to 75km/h. It emits only heat and water vapor, providing a diesel alternative. India joins a handful of countries operating zero-emission hydrogen trains, aiming for net-zero railways by 2030.

Two people have died, and more than 230 were rescued, as torrential rains and flash floods ravaged central Texas. One victim was swept away near Uvalde, and John Mark Steward of Kerrville died after his mobile home was carried off by floodwaters from Goat Creek. Governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for 59 counties, deploying 2,350 emergency responders, 800 vehicles, and 75 boats. The floods hit the same region where 139 people died in floods just over a year ago.

At least three killed and hundreds displaced by heavy rain in Chile

Torrential rain and fierce winds have lashed central and southern Chile, leaving at least three dead and hundreds displaced. President Jose Antonio Kast traveled to the Biobio region, one of the worst hit, to survey damage. Disaster relief agency SENAPRED reported 466 people in shelters and 158 isolated by rising waters, mostly in Coquimbo. Schools suspended classes in some areas and about 257,000 households remain without power.
