On World Blood Donor Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised alarm over persistent blood shortages in Africa. Regional Director for Africa, Professor Mohamed Yakub Janabi, stated that donations increased from 2.2 million in the early 2000s to nearly 7 million in 2023, but the region averages only six donations per 1,000 people, far below needs. Thousands of patients, including women with childbirth complications, children with severe malaria, and accident victims, depend on blood transfusions.
