US doctor recovers from Ebola in Germany as DRC cases surge to 488

Dr. Peter Stafford, a 39-year-old US surgeon working for a Christian missionary group in the DRC, has recovered from Ebola after more than two weeks of treatment at Berlin's Charite hospital. He contracted the rare Bundibugyo virus while operating on a patient in eastern DRC, before the outbreak was officially declared on May 15. Stafford and his family, who were quarantined, were released on Saturday. Meanwhile, the WHO reports that Ebola cases in the DRC have risen to 488, and no approved vaccine yet exists for this strain.
