Kericho Governor Orders Safety Audit of All Boarding Schools After Rising School Unrest

Kericho Governor Erick Mutai has ordered a safety audit of all boarding schools in the county within ten days, in response to rising school unrest in Kenya. This decision follows a stakeholder meeting involving local authorities, the Ministry of Education, and security agencies to ensure a secure environment for learners. The governor also urged school administrators to foster open communication with students to promote trust and mentorship. The move comes after the deadly dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy that killed 16 students, and Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok announced a nationwide safety inspection of all boarding schools starting June 2.
